The strict control of blood sugar levels is necessary for assessing precisely patients’ insulin doses in every specific situation. A tight blood glucose level control requires frequents measurements and complex algorithms for assessing the insulin dose needed to adjust for short term variations in activity, diet and stress.
Atos will develop an ICT Intelligent Platform facilitating the services associated to the security environment and the management of the information systems related to the patients’ medical data that will help not only healthcare professionals and patients, but also citizens.
The sensors connect through a wireless network to various hospital systems and advanced mathematical models that can assess the patients’ condition and provide directions for insulin therapy and possible crisis situations. The platform offers closed-loop feedback in both hospital environments and in outpatient clinics to patients, carers and healthcare professionals at the point of care with important information for effectively control of blood glucose levels in all situations so that health risks are minimised and the lives of patients improved.
Thanks to this platform, patients will obtain useful information related to their illness and support for self-management. Additionally, the platform will provide a safe environment by monitoring potentially life-threatening situations.
The REACTION Project will allow the continuous control of patients’ blood glucose levels by means of innovative sensors based on novel measuring technologies. These sensors are embedded in electronic plasters for wearability and comfort to the patient.
REACTION is a four-year research project funded by the European Commission, as part of the objective of the 7th Framework Programme for Personal Health Systems.
